About the Book and Author
Award-winning author, Kitty Morse was born in Casablanca, Morocco, of a French mother and British father. She immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. While studying for her Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Kitty catered Moroccan diffas (banquets), and went on to teach the intricacies of Moroccan cuisine in cooking schools and department stores nationwide. In June 2002, she conducted a Culinary Concert on Moroccan culture and cuisine hosted by Julia Child, as a benefit for the Harry Bell Foundation of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. From 1983 to 2007, Kitty organized an annual tour to Morocco that included culinary demonstrations in her family home, a Moorish riad south of Casablanca. She is the author of the San Diego Book Award nominated memoir, Mint Tea & Minarets, and nine other award-winning cookbooks. Her interest in edible flowers blossomed as a weekly columnist for the San Diego edition of the Los Angeles Times, and discovered that many of the growers lived in her San Diego County backyard. Edible Flowers is a one-of-a-kind guide to the flowers you can eat and use in cooking. In this beautifully compiled volume of full color photography and recipes, Kitty Morse gives the adventurous cook the essential guide to cooking with flowers, savory and decorative. From champagne glasses filled with petals to wraps of turkey & petite flowers to lavender shortbread cookies, Kitty illustrates how flowers can can be added to a variety of dishes for color & inventiveness.
