In Partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Diego State University
About the Event
Adventures by the Book™ is honored to partner with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Diego State University for a Culture & Cuisine of Greece Edventure at the delicious Apollonia Bistro. Join us for an authentic Greek meal with the self proclaimed "California Greek Girl" and co-author of Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil, Mary Platis.
Our Edventure is an opportunity to discover Greece, a country with the most ancient and prevalent of history. Many pillars of Western culture, including democracy, philosophy, theater, etc. were birthed in Greece. Throughout history this amazing country has achieved both greatness and faced utter turmoil, but the Greek culture remains today one of the most resilient in history. The importance of this culture and its strength in those of Greek decent is perfectly embodied in Mary Platis, whose parents immigrated to the United States and raised her in San Diego, but taught her the importance of her heritage, as is reflected in her book which teaches the use of olive oil, the most culturally important keystone of Mediterranean cooking, dating back to ancient times.
Event includes food, drink, tax & gratuity, book discussion, Q&A, book signing, and the opportunity to meet the author up close and personal in an intimate and authentic setting.
About the Author
Mary Papoulias-Platis’s parents immigrated from Greece before she was born and raised her in San Diego, but her culture has always been tied to her roots. Mary chose to combine her love of cooking and of Greece with her entrepreneurial skills to become co-owner of the Greek Gourmet catering company, which allows her to provide her community with fine Greek cuisine. Mary is currently working on building a culinary program, writing a cookbook, and developing recipes for food brands. Her blog is about her travels along the beautiful California coastline, as well as her enjoyment of Greek cooking, gardening, and the lifestyle that she has created with her family and friends over the years.
