About the Book and Author
Sarah McCoy, whose novel The Baker’s Daughter was a nominee for the 2012 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction, as well as a New York Times and international bestseller and perennial book club favorite returns with her third novel, The Mapmaker's Children.
McCoy spent three years researching abolitionist John Brown's family history. This research became the basis for her inventive new narrative in which McCoy honorably portrays the spirit of Brown's daughter, Sarah.
Skillfully plotted and magnificently transporting, The Mapmaker's Children highlights the power of community and legacy, illustrating the ways in which history and destiny are interconnected on one enormous, intricate map.
Sarah’s work has been featured in Real Simple, The Millions, Your Health Monthly, Huffington Post and other publications. She has taught English writing at Old Dominion University and at the University of Texas at El Paso.
The daughter of an Army officer, her family was stationed in Germany during her childhood. She calls Virginia home but presently lives with her husband, an Army physician, and dog, Gilbert, in El Paso, Texas.
Her novella “The Branch of Hazel” is featured in the anthology Grand Central, which our Adventures by the Book friend Jenna Blum also contributed to.
