In Partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Diego State University
About the Event
Adventures by the Book™ is honored to partner with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Diego State University for a Culture & Cuisine of Pakistan Edventure at the authentic Khan Baba Kebab House. Join us for an authentic Pakistani meal with the award-winning poet, Shadab Zeest Hashmi.
Our Edventure is an opportunity to discover one of the cradles of civilization. The region in which Pakistan is located today was previously home to several ancient cultures and was later ruled by kingdoms of various faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Afghans, and others. In 1947 Pakistan was uniquely created as an independent nation for Muslims. Encompassing for provinces and for federal territories, Pakistan is ethnically and linguistically diverse. With its strategic placement in the Middle East Pakistan has faced many changes throughout recent history and continues to develop as one of the powers of the region.
Shadab Zeest Hashmi is an award-winning poet who was born in Pakistan. Her poetry focuses largely on feminism, history, and perspectives on Islam. Over a traditional meal of Pakistani food, like Korma and Nihari at Khan Baba Kabab House, Hashmi will speak on the themes of her poetry and how she was inspired by her early life in Pakistan to create her brilliant writings.
Event includes food, drink, tax & gratuity, book discussion, Q&A, book signing, and the opportunity to meet the author up close and personal in an intimate and authentic setting.
