About the Event
Let us help you start your New Year off right with a resolution to follow amazing charitable role model Joan B. Kroc and give more** in 2017!
Join us for our Ronald McDonald Charitable Adventure with acclaimed author and journalist, Lisa Napoli, where we will enjoy an afternoon of inspiration over lunch and tour of the Ronald McDonald House in San Diego, a “home away from home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. Lisa's book, Ray & Joan: The Man Who Made the McDonald's Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away dives into the untold story of Joan Kroc, a woman who gave billions to her philanthropic pursuits, including the Ronald McDonald Houses.
Before this Adventure has even begun you will be following the charitable example of Joan with a donation to the Ronald McDonald House included in your ticket. On the day of the event, as we enjoy gourmet box lunches, we will learn how Lisa was inspired by an obscure piece of Los Angeles art to begin her research on the Krocs and everything that she discovered thereafter. Following lunch, we will be given a special tour of the facility by a staff member, to reveal to us all the amazing things that the charity aims to do for children and their families.
Your Adventure includes a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charity, gourmet box lunch (options below) with beverage, facility tour, book discussion, Q&A, author signing, and an opportunity to meet the author up close & personal in an intimate & unique setting.
**If you would like to give more to the Ronald McDonald House please CLICK HERE for a "Wish List" of ways to give to the charity, including welcome bags, clothing, personal care, toys, games, and our personal favorite, books.
About the Author and Book
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Lisa Napoli has lived for the last dozen years in southern California, where she was inspired to write this book by a public artwork with a mysterious provenance. In her three decades as a journalist, she’s worked for The New York Times, MSNBC, the public radio show Marketplace, and a variety of other outlets. She’s covered everything from presidential campaigns, to hacker conventions and a hostage standoff, to the dawn of the World Wide Web. Her first book, Radio Shangri-La, is about the impact of media culture on the mysterious Kingdom of Bhutan, where she was invited to help start a radio station at the dawn of democratic rule.
Ray & Joan is a quintessentially American tale of corporate intrigue and private passion: a struggling Mad Men–era salesman with a vision for a fast-food franchise that would become one of the world’s most enduring brands, and a beautiful woman willing to risk her marriage and her reputation to promote controversial causes that touched her deeply.
