About the Book and Author
In an isolated, tradition-bound village high above the Jordan River, debut author Layla Fiske introduces 15 year old Nisrina Huniah as she is about to be married to a man she has never met. Although she quickly falls in love with him, her joy is short-lived when the encroaching World War fiercely shatters her reality, propelling her on an unexpected journey.
Inspired by her own grandmother's story, Layla brings to life a story of hope and redemption set against the backdrop of life in early twentieth-century Middle East.
Her first novel recently won the coveted San Diego Geisel (Best of the Best) Book Award, as well as a Silver Award in the Benjamin Franklin Awards for Historical Fiction.
Please note that no physical tickets will be issued.
