Meet the lovely ladies of the Read Between the Wines book club, self-described by book club manager Kathie as follows: “We are a small rural female book club from Onanole, MB, Canada with about 10 members. We meet once monthly with July & August hiatus. We enjoy reading various genres.”
Of their third visit with favorite author Bryn Turnbull, Kathie offered this wonderful report:
“Read Between the Wines” members were elated to welcome back for a third time their favourite guest author, Bryn Turnbull of Toronto, Tues., October 10 to discuss The Paris Deception. As usual, Bryn was most gracious in answering several questions and commenting on her latest novel. We were again awed by the scrupulous research she undertook for her intriguing story centered around art treasures seized from victims of the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazis. Personal research included her meeting with an undisclosed art forger in New York. Bryn advised us that the two main protagonists, sisters-in-law Sophie and Fabienne, are the only fictional characters she has ever introduced in her works of historical fiction to date. She said both women contain certain aspects of herself including being introverted and extroverted “but Fabienne is the character I felt the most connection with.”Bakelite jewellery with its distinctive Art Deco style of the ’40s was also discussed.With previous works set in various European countries, Bryn was asked if she ever considered writing a future novel which takes place in Canada. We received an enthusiastic “Yes” but were advised to stay tuned for further details.Additionally, she also touched on her next work, The Berlin Apartment tentatively due to be released May 2024. We will naturally be adding it to the top of our reading list. Thanks again for joining us, Bryn. You made our day.”
