Reading Between the Vines: a Wine & Book Pairing Adventure featuring cookbook author and memoirist Brigit Binns

March 24 @ 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

About the In-Person Event

“Language is wine upon the lips” – Virginia Woolf

Virginia Woolf made the connection between language and wine, so we wanted to take a page from her and create an entire Adventures by the Book series devoted to the pairing of wine and books. Voila! Introducing our new Reading Between the Vines series to take place at the estate producer Hook & Ladder Winery, 2134 Olivet Rd, Santa Rosa, in Sonoma County, California!

With the assistance of Melier, indulge in an afternoon filled with a sumptuous wine tasting and book pairing experience, presented under California’s brilliant trademark sunshine. While you sample some of the delectable wines that Hook & Ladder Winery is known for, meet prolific cookbook author Brigit Binns and learn about her new memoir, Rottenkid: A Succulent Story of Survival.

Your Adventure includes a glass of Hook & Ladder wine specifically selected to pair with Brigit’s book, a signed paperback copy of Rottenkid, author presentation, Q&A, book signing, and the opportunity to meet the author in a relaxed and intimate setting at the beautiful Hook & Ladder Winery property.

About the Author

Brigit Binns is the author or co-author of 25 cookbooks, many of them for Williams-Sonoma, as well as ghost-writer on many others. During the ten years she spent living in Europe, Brigit graduated from England’s Tante Marie cooking school, lived and catered in Spain for three years, and edited the Costa del Sol’s English-language magazine.

Brigit’s cookbook Eating Up the West Coast: The best road trips, recipes, and restaurants from California to Washington was her twenty-ninth book. She’s been lucky enough to help some of the USA’s most respected chefs, like New York’s Michael Psilakis and Los Angeles’ Joachim Splichal, turn their cookbook dreams into reality. Brigit now lives happily full time in California’s Central Coast wine country. Her black-and-white dog Stella and fabulous husband, Casey (aka the Wine Spectator-award-winning Paso Wine Man), together make her life most eminently worth living. She can’t imagine a better place to eat, drink, and be married.

Rottenkid: A Succulent Story of Survival is a coming-of-age memoir―co-starring Brigit’s alcoholic actor father Edward Binns and glamorous but viciously smart narcissistic mother―which reveals how simultaneous privilege and profound neglect led Brigit to seek comfort in the kitchen, eventually allowing her to find some sense of self-worth. A memoir sautéed in Hollywood stories, world travel, and always, the need to belong.
