in partnership with The Carlsbad City Library

About the Event

Adventures by the Book is pleased to partner with the Carlsbad City Library for a Free Library Adventure with authors Cindy Henson, Lisa Shapiro, and Marlene Wagman-Geller. Join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of unstoppable men and women throughout history and explore the true stories of Professor Lauren Post, who held together and nurtured an entire community during World War II, and women like Krista Suh, game-changing women who shattered glass ceilings.

This free Adventure includes a book discussion, Q&A, book signing, and the opportunity to meet the authors up close and personal.

About the Authors

Cindy Henson is the Chief Executive Officer of Henson Consulting Group. She possesses thirty-three years experience within corporations, local government agencies, and non-profits as a business executive and an independent consultant.

Her book,  Jungle: A Journey to Peace, Purpose, and Freedom, is much like Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love – except for the corporate leader. Nearly two decades into her corporate career, Henson was awakened to a lifelong addiction to overworking and “taking one for the team” by a debilitating illness, which led her to the jungle of Costa Rica to pursue a master’s degree in International Peace and Conflict Studies. In her renewed approach to life, she integrates laughter, adventure, generosity, and love into all that she does – at work and in her personal life.

Lisa K. Shapiro is an Assistant Professor of Business at San Diego Mesa College. She holds a degree in Management and Literature, and has also taught composition and creative writing in San Diego.

He new book, No Forgotten Fronts: From Classrooms to Combat, was published through the Naval Institution Press and is based on thousands of original letters written by students from San Diego State who served in World War II. Shapiro spent more than two years researching the correspondence between young service men and service women and one trusted professor.

Marlene Wagman-Geller received her B.A. from New York University and her
teaching credentials from the University of Toronto and San Diego State University. Currently, she teaches high school English in National City, California.
Her newest book, Women Who Launch, tells the story of kick-ass fabulous females who changed the world. The grand tradition of the Mothers of Invention carries on as teh creativity and unstoppable smarts of women launch new enterprises and initiate social change on a daily basis. Let these Women Who Launch inspire you to discover your dreams and make them a reality.
