Here is your opportunity to jump-start a little self-care with a mini workshop at the La Jolla/Riford Library with Julie Potiker, mindfulness expert and author of SNAP!: From Chaos to Calm,  and meditation instructor, philanthropist and visionary poet Puja Shah, author of For My Sister!

Puja Shah is a visionary poet who shares her voice through written and spoken word, guided meditations, and teaching. Born in Queens, New York to immigrant parents, she defied teachers who questioned her English skills by winning countless poetry and short story awards in her youth. As an avid reader, she spent her teen years exploring New York City for poetry slams and book readings. The blend of East and West has always fascinated her, so she holds a graduate degree in dental medicine from Tufts University as well as over a dozen trainings in various forms of yoga, meditation, and ancient wisdom.

Her award-winning book, For My Sister, is a journey of light and darkness with Amla and Asya: twin sisters trafficked into India’s notorious Sonagachi district, Asia’s largest red light district. Can the power of poetry, photography, mindfulness, and sisterly love bring them back home and to each other? It has won the American Book Awards for Social Change and International Impact Book Awards for Women’s Fiction.

With over 10 years of nonprofit experience and a long public health career, Puja has aligned with girl trafficking awareness causes for her debut novel.
