Murder Mystery Whodunnit: A Virtual Adventure by the Book

July 2, 2020 @ 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

$18.95 – $76.74

About the Event

We are pleased to invite you to our Murder Mystery Whodunnit Virtual Adventure with New York Times bestselling authors Megan Miranda, Jean Kwok, and Wendy Walker, together with upcoming author Michelle Cox and Pulitzer-Prize winning artist Steve Breen.  Join us on Zoom* to “meet” these creative artists and experience the murder, intrigue, and suspense this Adventure is sure to invoke.

As you relax in the comfort of your own home, allow our four authors to set the stage for their four suspenseful murder mystery novels, after which Steve Breen, with the help of an unnamed source, will offer a sketch artist demonstration, and we will see who our own “murderer” turns out to be.

This Virtual Adventure was designed not only to support five creative artists whose book tours and events were cancelled due to COVID-19, but also to provide readers with our signature Adventures by the Book® multi-sensorial experience that brings literature to life in exciting and unique ways. Event admission is included with your purchase of any of the authors’ books, or purchase all four, and receive a special bundled discount.

Your Adventure includes your choice of any of the authors’ books, shipping within the US, signed bookplate(s), a virtual book discussion with four bestselling authors, and a fun sketch artist demonstration.

*Instructions to join the Zoom virtual Adventure will be emailed to you three days prior to the event. Please note that no technical assistance will be available during the event, so we highly recommend you practice using Zoom with friends and family prior to the event.

Her new book, The Girl from Widow Hills (Simon and Schuster: June 23, 2020), is a riveting new novel of psychological suspense about a young woman plagued by night terrors after a childhood trauma who wakes one evening to find a corpse at her feet.

Jean Kwok is the award-winning, New York Times and international bestselling author of Searching for Sylvie Lee, Girl in Translation, and Mambo in Chinatown. Her work has been published in twenty countries and taught in universities, colleges and high schools across the world.

Jean immigrated from Hong Kong to Brooklyn when she was five and worked in a Chinatown clothing factory for much of her childhood while living in an unheated, roach-infested apartment. In between her undergraduate degree at Harvard and MFA in fiction at Columbia, she worked for three years as a professional ballroom dancer. She lives in the Netherlands with her husband, two sons and four cats.

Her new book, Searching for Sylvie Lee (William Morrow & Company: June 4, 2019), was an instant New York Times bestseller and was selected for the Today Show Book Club and featured in The New York Times, Time, Newsweek, CNN, The New York Post, The Washington Post, O Magazine, People, Entertainment Weekly and more. The book was inspired by her beloved brother Kwan, who passed away in a tragic plane accident. The novel is a poignant and suspenseful drama that untangles the complicated ties binding three women—two sisters and their mother—in one Chinese immigrant family and explores what happens when the eldest daughter disappears, and a series of family secrets emerge

Wendy Walker is the author of the psychological suspense novels All Is Not ForgottenEmma In the NightThe Night Before and Don’t Look For Me. Her novels have been translated into 23 foreign languages and topped bestseller lists both nationally and abroad. Wendy holds degrees from Brown University and Georgetown Law School, and has worked in finance and several areas of the law. As a former family law attorney with training in child advocacy, Wendy draws from her knowledge of trauma and psychology to write compelling and complex characters and stories.

Her most recent book, The Night Before (St. Martin’s Press: April 28, 2020),  is a riveting and compulsive thrilled that “takes you to deep, dark places few thrillers dare to go” as two sisters uncover long-buried secrets when an internet date spirals out of control.

Michelle Cox is the author of the multiple award-winning Henrietta and Inspector Howard series as well as “Novel Notes of Local Lore,” a weekly blog dedicated to Chicago’s forgotten residents.  She suspects she may have once lived in the 1930s and, having yet to discover a handy time machine lying around, has resorted to writing about the era as a way of getting herself back there.

Her new book, A Child Lost (She Writes Press: April 28, 2020) features Clive who, anxious to distract a depressed Henrietta, begs Sergeant Frank Davis for a case, and is assigned to investigating a seemingly boring affair: a spiritualist woman operating in an abandoned schoolhouse on the edge of town who is suspected of robbing people of their valuables. What begins as an open and shut case becomes more complicated, however, when Henrietta―much to Clive’s dismay―begins to believe the spiritualist’s strange ramblings.
