Virginia Woolf made the connection between language and wine, so we wanted to take a page from her and create an entire Adventures by the Book series devoted to the pairing of wine and books. Voila! Join us for our next event in the Reading Between the Vines series, which will take place once again at the estate producer Hook & Ladder Winery, 2134 Olivet Rd, Santa Rosa, in Sonoma County, California, as part of their exciting new Book & Ladder Club!
With the assistance of Melier, we invite you to indulge in a bubbles tasting and book pairing experience, presented under California’s brilliant trademark sunshine. While you sample a delectable glass of Hook & Ladder Winery bubbles and light pastries, meet award-winning debut author Simi Monheit and learn about her novel, The Goldie Standard.
Your Adventure includes a glass of Hook & Ladder bubbles specifically selected to pair with Simi’s novel, fresh pastries, author presentation, Q&A, book signing, and the opportunity to meet the author in a relaxed and intimate setting at the beautiful Hook & Ladder Winery property. Copies of The Goldie Standard will be available for sale at the event for signing.
About the Author
Simi Monheit is a graduate of Stanford’s Novel Writing Certificate program, has a Master’s degree in Computer Science and an undergraduate degree in English. She started writing after a career in technology. The Goldie Standard is her debut novel.
Her work focuses on Jewish themes and has appeared in JewishFiction.net, The Forward, Moment, Lilith Magazine, among others. Simi was Pushcart Prize nominee (2020), placed in the 2O20 Writer’s Digest literary fiction short story contest, and even won the 2022 Pacifica Literary Review bodice ripper contest. Most recently, The Goldie Standard was a Best New Fiction Finalist in the 2024 Pacific Book Awards.
When she’s not writing she’s hiking. Or talking with friends. Or trying to figure out what her adult daughter (of whom she’s inordinately proud), is up to.
Hilarious and surprising, The Goldie Standard is an unapologetic Jewish story that delivers a present-day take on a highly creative grandmother trying to find her Ph.D granddaughter a husband who is a doctor—with a yarmulke, of course.
