About the Event

It has been an extraordinary ten years of Adventures by the Book, and we want to celebrate with you, the literary lovers who have helped us do what we love for an entire decade! Since we can’t yet celebrate in person, we are excited to host our event on a brand new platform, Fireside, which is a cross between a live podcast and a call-in radio show (no video so you can stay in your jammies!) in which guests can converse with speakers live “on stage.”  We hope you will join us, alongside the likes of NYT and international bestselling and award-winning authors like Frances Mayes, Lisa See, Lynn Schooler, Jenna Blum, Christopher Castellani, Hallie Ephron, Sarah McCoy, Kristina McMorris, Laura Morelli, Shilpi Gowda, Wendy Walker, Renee Rosen, and so many more who have graciously accepted our invite to celebrate with us!

Ten years ago, Susan McBeth had a vision to turn run-of-the-mill book signing events into something extraordinary. Her mission was to offer worldwide opportunities for readers to connect with authors and their books on an intimate basis through unique, interesting, and adventurous travels & events. Ten years later, ABTB has traveled to Italy to visit Frances Mayes literally “Under the Tuscan Sun,” as well as to Thailand with renowned vegan chef Jean Christian Jury, to Patagonia with former penguin researcher and award-winning author Midge Raymond, to Germany with NYT and international bestselling author Jenna Blum, to Eastern Europe with award-winning author Kathi Diamant, and domestically, to Alaska with Lynn Schooler and Debbie Moderow, as well as to LA’s Chinatown with NYT and international bestselling author Lisa See.

Beginning with our first event ever, a MacBeth themed dinner adventure complete with three witches from the Shakespeare Society with now NYT bestselling author Eleanor Brown , we have hosted teas and happy hours and wine and chocolate tastings, enjoyed the theater, hosted fundraising events and corporate events. We have experimented with an author exchange program, leading four San Diego authors to Anchorage, Alaska, and bringing the Alaskan authors to San Diego. We have launched NovelNetwork to offer authors low-cost alternatives to connecting with readers through our popular book bingo program and thru book club visits and discussions. We have indulged in decadent dinners and sampled exotic fare from around the world, all with exceptional authors and readers who enjoy the opportunity to connect with each other and with the world, one book at a time.

As we start our journey into the next ten years, we are excited by so many new opportunities. Zoom has allowed us to connect with more readers than ever, all over the world. And now with the advent of Fireside, we are adding to the mix new Fireside events, including author conversations, NovelNetwork book club visits, drop in literary chats, AuthorPreneurs writers’ sessions, and we are only getting started.

About the Founder

Adventures by the Book® founder Susan McBeth has specialized in event planning for over 30 years. Before launching Adventures by the Book® and NovelNetwork®, she was the Director of Marketing and Events for one of the oldest independent bookstores in the United States. Through her career, Susan has had extensive experience working alongside publishers, publicists, agents, authors, and readers. Her experience and creativity led her to develop a dynamic brand of literary events designed to meet and exceed the expectations of readers and authors by offering multi-sensorial experiences and not just run-of-the-mill book signing events.

Susan is a contributor to Everyday Book Marketing and she is a contributing editor to international online magazine Wine Dine & Travel, with her column “Travel by the Book.” She has been featured on NBC San Diego, KPBS, The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Magazine, Women’s Radio, and many more. Susan is a facilitator for the Osher Institute of Higher Learning at San Diego State University and sits on the advisory committee for KPBS’s One Book, One San Diego. She holds a Masters in Comparative Literature from San Diego State University; her thesis was titled “The Historicity of Fiction in Holocaust Literature.”

In her spare time, she loves to travel, garden, read, organize (yes, she’s one of those people), enjoy the outdoors, and most of all, spend time with her grown children who live in Northern California. She is the epitome of “do a job you love and you never work a day in your life.”

About Fireside Chat

We are thrilled to announce that Adventures by the Book has been invited to host a literary series on Fireside Chat which will include book discussions, author talks, book clubs, special presentations, and much more. Founded by billionaire entrepreneur and Shark Tank TV star, Mark Cuban, and Falon Fatemi, former CEO and Founder of Node.ai, Fireside offers intimate chats with curated content creators like Adventures by the Book. Remember the Fireside Chats of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during WWII? Well, they are back, and technology has enabled them to return bigger and better than ever, and in a technological format that allows YOU to actively participate!

Fireside Chat is the exclusive, invite-only new podcast platform for the next generation – a socially responsible space for us to come together in real-time to collaborate and create meaningful conversations. Together, we will engage in discussion, debate, and discourse in a public forum and make it a thing of celebration and beauty. We are ready to share our microphone with you and hope you’ll join us as we collaborate in the world’s most dynamic auditorium.
