She is the co-host and co-creator of the popular weekly online Friends and Fiction live web show and podcast. Patti is also a contributor to the weekly life lesson essay column for Parade Magazine. \nGrowing up in Philadelphia as the daughter of a Presbyterian minister\, Patti learned early the value of storytelling. At the age of twelve\, her family moved to South Florida where Patti found the sanctuary of libraries and began her slow but steady journey into understanding the power of story to navigate confusing times in life. A full-time author and mother of three children\, she now resides in both Mountain Brook\, Alabama\, and Bluffton\, South Carolina with her husband. \nIn her latest novel\, Once Upon A Wardrobe\, protagonist Megs Devonshire is brilliant with numbers and equations\, on a scholarship at Oxford\, and dreams of solving the greatest mysteries of physics. That is\, until the younger brother she loves\, George\, doesn’t have long to live. When George becomes captivated by a copy of a brand-new book called The Lion\, the Witch and the Wardrobe and begs her to find out where Narnia came from\, there’s no way she can refuse. \nDespite her timidity about approaching the famous author\, Megs soon finds herself taking tea with the Oxford don and his own brother\, imploring them for answers. What she receives instead are more stories… stories of Jack Lewis’s life\, which she takes home to George. Once Upon A Wardrobe is another tenderly imagined and enchanting story that pulls back the curtain on the early life of C. S. Lewis. \n  \n \n\nDebbie Macomber is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and one of today’s most popular writers with more than 200 million copies of her books in print worldwide. In her novels\, Debbie brings to life compelling relationships that embrace family and enduring friendships\, uplifting her readers with stories of connection and hope. Macomber is also the author of the bestselling Cedar Cove Series which the Hallmark Channel chose as the basis for its first dramatic scripted television series. Debuting in 2013\, Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove was a ratings favorite for three seasons. \nIn her nostalgic new Christmas novel\, Dear Santa\, a special holiday wish list brings about hope\, love\, and second chances. Lindy Carmichael isn’t feeling particularly joyful when she returns home to Wenatchee\, Washington\, for Christmas. The man she thought was “the one” has cheated on her with her best friend\, and she feels completely devoid of creativity in her graphic design job. Not even carolers or Christmas cookies can cheer her up–but Lindy’s mother\, Ellen\, remembers an old tradition that might lift her daughter’s spirits. \nReading through a box of childhood letters to Santa and reminiscing about what she’d wished for as a young girl may be just the inspiration Lindy needs. With Ellen’s encouragement\, she decides to write a new letter–not to Santa\, but to herself. Little does Lindy know that this exercise in gratitude will cause her wishes to unfold before her in miraculous ways. And\, thanks to some fateful twists of Christmas magic–especially an unexpected connection with a handsome former classmate–Lindy ultimately realizes that there is truly no place like home for the holidays. \n\n\n\nAbout Fireside\nWe are thrilled to announce that Adventures by the Book has been invited to host a literary series on Fireside which will include book discussions\, author talks\, book clubs\, special presentations\, and much more. SUMMARY:Pairings & Prose (Australia): A Virtual Adventure by the Book
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nBooks and Wine! They are a perfect pairing\, but with so many varietals of wine and books\, the process of choosing one or the other can be overwhelming. Well that is all about to change\, as we introduce our new series\, Pairings & Prose\, and we couldn’t be more excited that our inaugural event features international and New York Times bestselling author Christina Baker Kline\, in conversation with fellow international and New York Times bestselling author\, Heather Morris. \nWith assistance from the talented team at San Diego’s Splash Wine Lounge\, we have selected the perfect wine to pair with The Exiles\, so sit back\, pour yourself a glass of classic South Australian Shiraz (order below to be shipped to you in time for the event)\, and enjoy a wine presentation by the owner of Australia’s Vintage Longbottom\, followed by an engaging discussion with Christina Baker Kline and Aussie\, Heather Morris\, about Christina’s gorgeous new novel. You just may feel like you have traveled to Australia! \nYour Adventure includes signed book\, paired wine (sold separately below) tax\, shipping\, author presentation\, and the chance to meet the authors and winery owner in a unique virtual event. While life in Australia is punishing and often brutally unfair\, it is also\, for some\, an opportunity: for redemption\, for a new way of life\, for unimagined freedom. Told in exquisite detail and incisive prose\, The Exiles is a story of grace born from hardship\, the unbreakable bonds of female friendships\, and the unfettering of legacy.captures the hardship\, oppression\, opportunity and hope of a trio of women’s lives—two English convicts and an orphaned Aboriginal girl — in nineteenth-century Australia. \nAbout the Moderator\nHeather Morris is the New York Times and international bestselling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey. Born in New Zealand\, she now lives in Australia\, so as a Aussie and fellow international bestselling author\, we couldn’t think of a better moderator for our event. \nAfter majoring in Political Science\, Heather worked in the Social Work Department while raising her three children. During this time\, she also became a competitive athlete enjoying shot-put\, discus\, javelin\, and hammer throwing. Her passion for storytelling compelled her to enroll in The Professional Scriptwriting Course through the Australian College of Journalism\, after which she attended screenwriting courses\, seminars and workshops\, especially enjoying heroic storylines\, several of which she adapted into screenplays. \nAnd then she met Lale Sokolov\, the inspiration behind the blockbuster sensations The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey\, who was transported to Auschwitz and put to work in the privileged position of Tätowierer – the tattooist – to mark his fellow prisoners\, forever. One of them is a young woman\, Gita\, who steals his heart at first glance\, and their friend\, Cilka. Heather’s recounting of their heartbreaking\, true stories is illuminating and unforgettable. \n\n  \n\nAbout Vintage Longbottom and Featured Wine\n \nHailing from New Zealand’s famous Marlborough region\, wine has been one of Kim Longbottom’s life-long passions – and one she shared with her late husband Mark\, a third-generation pastoralist with a natural affinity for the land. They have had the good fortune of meeting amazing people and wonderful volunteers who have helped them build a network of compassionate and generous people who have helped build Labs and More. Because of these efforts\, they have endeavored to never have to say “no” to dogs in their breed group needing extensive medical care\, pregnant moms and moms with pups\, senior dogs in need of medical assistance\, and adults who otherwise have no chance at life. \nLabs and More’s Fosters are a force to be proud of making room in their homes for hundreds of dogs weekly. These fosters have allowed Labs and More to provide a safe haven for moms and pups who have been discarded often worse than trash onto the streets\, dumped injured along roadsides\, and left to find shelter outside to deliver\, feed and provide protection to their newborn pups. This year alone\, they have saved over 160 litters of puppies and over 600 puppies. Many of these mom’s and pups require urgent medical care to include emergency C – Sections to save mom and babies\, IV’s and blood tests because of their poor health and condition\, and hospitalization for diseases like Parvo. SUMMARY:Mystery Books & Brews Adventure

If you love mystery books and beer (and really\, who doesn’t?)\, then make sure to join us at Pure Project Brewery in Bankers Hill\, San Diego. \nAs you enjoy a casual dinner\, and beer (of course!)\, Deanna\, Paddy\, and Matthew will discuss their exciting new books\, A Murderous Relation\, Hudson’s Kill\, and The Night Agent. \nYour Adventure includes dinner\, your choice of not just one\, but two beers (or substitute for kombucha or sparkling flavored waters) from event menu\, tax\, gratuity\, author talk\, book signing\, and the chance to meet the authors up-close and personal in a fun and intimate setting. Special discount is available when purchasing a three-pack of all authors’ books! \n\nAbout the Authors and Books\nDeanna Raybourn is the New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award nominated author whose novels have been nominated for numerous awards including 5 RITAs\, 2 RT Reviewers’ Choice awards\, the Agatha\, 2 Dilys Winns\, a Last Laugh\, and 3 du Mauriers. \nIn her new book\, A Murderous Relation\, a Veronica Speedwell Mystery #5\, Veronica navigates a dark world of scandal and murder when she and her natural historian colleague Stoker are asked by Lady Wellingtonia Beauclerk to help with a potential scandal so explosive it threatens to rock the monarchy. \nWorse yet\, London is gripped by hysteria in the autumn of 1888\, terrorized by what would become the most notorious and elusive serial killer in history\, Jack the Ripper–and Lady Wellie suspects the prince may be responsible. \n  \n\nPaddy Hirsch is “a writer\, a journalist\, and an explainer\,” who has worked in news for nearly 20 years. His first novel\, The Devil’s Half Mile\, is a historical thriller\, set in New York in 1799. The Devil’s Half Mile is a nickname for Wall Street\, and has themes of high finance\, corruption and criminality. \nThe sequel\, Hudson’s Kill\, is set in 1803 New York. Rife with tension as the city expands\, violence builds as a mysterious provocateur pits the city’s black and Irish gangs against each other. \nWhen a young black girl is found stabbed to death\, both Justy Flanagan\, now a City Marshal\, and Kerry O’Toole\, now a school teacher\, decide separately to go after the killer. They each find their way to a shadowy community on the fringes of the growing city\, where they uncover a craven political conspiracy bound up with a criminal enterprise that is stunning in its depravity. \n  \nMatthew Quirk is a New York Times bestselling author who has studied history and literature at Harvard College. After graduation\, he spent five years at The Atlantic reporting on crime\, private military contractors\, terrorism prosecutions\, and international gangs. \nIn his latest book\, an exhilarating political thriller\, an idealistic young FBI agent must question everything and trust no one to stop a Russian mole in the White House to save America from a catastrophic betrayal. \nNo one was more surprised than FBI Agent Peter Sutherland when he’s tapped to work in the White House Situation Room. From his earliest days as a surveillance specialist\, Peter has scrupulously done everything by the book\, hoping his record will help him escape the taint of his past. When Peter was a boy\, his father\, a section chief in FBI counterintelligence\, was suspected of selling secrets to the Russians—a catastrophic breach that had cost him his career\, his reputation\, and eventually his life. \nAbout Pure Project\n \nPure Project started back in 2013 when friends from San Diego\, Jesse Pine and Mat Robar were on a backpacking trip with friends in the Rocky Mountains.  Now if you have ever been backpacking\, there is not a whole lot distracting you out there\, so you tend to talk a lot on the trail and that is where it started\, on the slow climb to the top of a 12\,253 ft mountain in Colorado… \nJesse had recently moved to Costa Rica and was starting to become acquainted with the country.  The conversation flowed from the scenic vistas he had seen to hidden beaches\, exotic local fruits and eventually settled on beer oddly enough.  You see at that time in Costa Rica\, there weren’t many options for beer other than mass produced local lagers.  That being said\, Jesse had attended the country’s 2nd annual craft beer festival and saw that it was starting to gain some traction\, not just with American expats looking for a taste of home\, but also with the local population. \n. \n  \n  \nSave
