About the Event
It’s off to the races (at least the behind-the-scenes portion) at the internationally-renowned Del Mar racetrack as we join San Diego author and winning thoroughbred racehorse owner Alan Mindell for a fun Thoroughbred Adventure by the Book.
In the setting that served as Alan’s inspiration for his latest novel, The B Team, Alan will guide us on a exclusive, behind-the-scenes-tour (not available to the general public), where you will enjoy the opportunity to explore the stables, meet racehorse trainers, take photos, and walk along the tracks as the horses go through their morning trainings and routines. And keep your fingers crossed, you may even meet some jockeys and Alan’s very own race horses!
After the tour, we invite you to cross the finish line with us at the Del Mar Hilton for a delicious full breakfast buffet, which you can enjoy while Alan regales us with the stories behind his novel, The B Team. And courtesy of Alan, all guests will also receive a clubhouse pass to the Del Mar races, which can be used on your own the same day or for any subsequent race in 2019!
Your Adventure includes an extensive tour of the Del Mar stable area, an autographed copy of The B Team, a clubhouse pass to the Del Mar races, a full breakfast buffet at the Del Mar Hilton, tax, gratuity, author presentation, book signing, and the chance to meet the author up-close and personal in an intimate and authentic setting.
About the Author
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Alan Mindell played varsity baseball for three years as a center fielder, after which he coached high school baseball and basketball, and later won four gold medals as a sprinter in the 2012 San Diego Senior Olympics. Out of this sports background, he wrote The Closer, a baseball love story.
For many years, he has owned and bred thoroughbred race horses, winning stakes at Del Mar and Hollywood Park. This experience prompted him to write The B Team, the story of a one-eyed horse that winds up in the Kentucky Derby.
Both of his novels became Amazon`s number one bestselling paperbacks in sports fiction, and The Closer has appeared on Amazon bestselling charts in four different categories. He has also written screenplays for both novels, which are currently being submitted to Hollywood studios as possible movie projects.
