About the Live, In Person, Adventure

NOTE: This event is SOLD OUT and now accepting a waitlist. Please email events@adventuresbythebook.com if you wish to join the waitlist.

Have you ever wanted to go behind the scenes with an author to get a glimpse of where they live and work, to learn more about the writer behind the book? Well, our curiosity got the best of us too, which inspired the launch of our new series, Inside the Author’s Studio, dedicated to exclusive and intimate private home Adventures with some of your favorite authors.

Please join us for the inaugural Inside the Author’s Studio to be held live and in-person at the private home* of New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Michelle Gable! While you sip champagne and enjoy delectable sweet and savory crepes freshly made onsite courtesy of our friends at  Isabelle Briens French Pastry Cafe, Michelle will chat about her latest historical novel, The Bookseller’s Secret. Here is your chance to meet the author up close and personal in an intimate and small-group encounter at her home in Encinitas, California.

And since part of any writer’s journey is ensuring that everyone has access to literacy and reading materials, we want to dedicate a portion of all book sales from the event to Traveling Stories, whose mission it is to eradicate illiteracy, one book at a time.

Your Adventure includes an exclusive invite into Michelle’s home, a glass of champagne, delicious savory and sweet french crepes, a paperback copy of The Bookseller’s Secret to be signed at the event, tax, gratuity, book discussion, Q&A, donation to Traveling Stories, and an opportunity to meet the author up close and personal in her private residence. Due to the private and intimate nature of this event, tickets are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to register soon to guarantee admission.

Only books purchased below or at the event are eligible for signing. The event address will be emailed to Adventurers 3 days prior to the event.

*PLEASE NOTE: COVID-19 vaccination is required for attendees. By registering for this event, you are certifying that you have been COVID vaccinated, that you have not been exposed to the COVID virus, and you are not exhibiting any COVID symptoms.  You WILL be asked to show your proof of vaccination at the door, so please bring it with you.

About the Author

Michelle Gable is the the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of A Paris Apartment, I’ll See You In Paris, The Book of Summer, The Summer I Met Jack, and The Bookseller’s Secret. She grew up in sunny San Diego and attended The College of William & Mary, after which she pursued a career in finance, first at the now-defunct Arthur Andersen, later moving to private equity, followed by investment banking, then back to private equity, ultimately landing at software giant Ellie Mae as head of Investor Relations. In May 2016, she ended a 20-year career in finance to become a full-time writer.

Her newest work of historical fiction, The Bookseller’s Secret, takes place in 1942 London, when Nancy Mitford is worried about more than air raids and German spies. Still recovering from a devastating loss of estrangement from her husband, as well as having her allowance cut and having to give up her writing career, she is eager for distraction and desperate for income, so she jumps at the chance to manage a bookshop while the owner is away at war.

But when a mysterious French officer insists that she has a story to tell, Nancy must decide if picking up pen and paper again and revealing all is worth the price she may be forced to pay. Eighty years later, the bookshop is abuzz with the hunt for a lost wartime manuscript written by Nancy. The search will reveal not only a new side to Nancy, but an event more surprising link between the present and the past.
