About the In-Person Library Adventure

“The suspense is horrible; I hope it will last.” – Oscar Wilde

We won’t keep you in suspense – or maybe we will, because Oscar Wilde is right! And if you like suspense as much as we do, you won’t want to miss two New York Times bestselling authors, Kate White and Cara Black, who both have new books that will keep you turning pages late into the night.

Kate White’s new psychological thriller, Between Two Strangers, is “deliciously addictive…as impossible to predict as it is to put down” (Lisa Unger) and Cara Black’s historical novel, Night Flight to Paris “vividly evokes the sights, sounds, and smells of Paris under Nazi occupation” (Publisher’s Weekly). Meet both authors at the Carlsbad City Library for a delicious afternoon of suspense.

About the Authors and Books

Kate White is the New York Times bestselling author of 17 novels of suspense: 9 standalone psychological thrillers, including The Secrets You Keep and The Second Husband,  and 8 Bailey Weggins mysteries.

For 14 years Kate served as the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, which under her became the most successful magazine in single copy sales in the U.S. Though she loved her magazine career, she decided to leave 10 years ago to concentrate full-time on another passion: writing suspense fiction.

Kate’s first mystery, If Looks Could Kill, was a Kelly Ripa Book Club pick and #1 bestseller on Amazon, and she has received and been nominated for many awards in her media career, including an International Thriller Writers Award.

Her new book, Between Two Strangers, is pulse-pounding psychological thriller about a struggling artist who receives a bewilderingly large, life-changing inheritance from a man she spent a single night with twelve years ago – and she has no idea why.

Cara Black is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 20 books in the Private Investigator Aimée Leduc series, and two World War II-set novels featuring American markswoman Kate Rees.

Cara has received multiple nominations for the Anthony and Macavity Awards, a Washington Post Book World Book of the Year citation, the Médaille de la Ville de Paris—the Paris City Medal, which is awarded in recognition of contribution to international culture—and invitations to be the Guest of Honor at conferences such as the Paris Polar Crime Festival and Left Coast Crime.

With more than 400,000 books in print, the Aimée Leduc series has been translated into German, Norwegian, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, and Hebrew.

Her new book, Night Flight to Paris, is the (stand-alone) sequel to Three Hours in Paris, chosen by the Washington PostWall Street Journal and Seattle Times as one of the Best Crime Novels of 2020

It’s been two years since Kate Rees was sent to Paris on a British Secret Service mission to assassinate Hitler. Since then, she has left spycraft behind to take a training job as a sharpshooting instructor in the Scottish Highlands. But her quiet life is violently disrupted when Colonel Stepney, her former handler, drags her back into the fray for a risky three-pronged mission in Paris.
