Becky Ellis
Biographical Info Becky Ellis is a Timberwolf Pup. The daughter of a highly decorated World War II combat sergeant, she is a veteran of a war fought at home. She earned a BA in English Literature at UC Berkeley and has over twenty years of experience in the publishing industry. She teaches writing in Portland, Oregon, where she lives, plays, and has raised three daughters. Little Avalanches, her debut memoir, has won the Rubery Award for Best Nonfiction Book of the Year, the IAN Best War/Military Book of the Year, and is an Oregon Book Award Finalist. It is a daughter-father story of war. As a small girl, Becky wanted to be the daughter her father needed, but he had an explosive and often dangerous personality and would not explain anything to anyone. She did not understand that this came from his WWII demons and distanced herself from the man she wanted to love. As a young adult, her relationships struggled – with herself, then her husband, and ultimately her children. Then, she had a moment that changed everything. Her father broke 70 years of silence and revealed the extent of the trauma he endured, and she saw him for the man he was, not the father she wanted him to be. In seeing him, she saw myself. How hard they tried. How well they loved and hurt and ultimately saved each other.
