ABOUT:
When change announces itself, for some, the instinct is to freeze and hope it will go away, as if change were a rampaging bear. I’m no bear expert; playing dead when a grizzly attacks is an old adage. But if you play dead after the bear has moseyed on, it may come back. And be hungry. Or curious. A quick bite will satisfy the bear’s feelings, and playtime is now over.
So why do we play dead too long? Why do we wait? Why are we so fearful of what comes next that we would rather stay in a groundhog’s day of unhappiness, endlessly repeating what doesn’t work?
At some point, we have to choose how we want our story to play out.
As humans, we take a lot of missteps. We experience a lot of pain. But as long as we’re alive we can redefine our story. We can turn the page to another chapter with a different plot and character arc than the one we lived before.
The power to iterate, to let go, to be good enough, to connect, to change—it all coalesces into the power of resilience. The ability to Create, Revise, Repair the story of your life as long as you keep breathing.
