The UTF Book Club is comprised of a group of retired teachers who love to read, especially historical fiction. The group’s book club manager, Joan, arranged for a group study of New York Times bestselling author Kristina McMorris‘s work, and scheduled three separate visits from the author over a period of three months, for discussion of three of the author’s books.
Round one was a smashing success! The book of discussion, SOLD ON A MONDAY, was very well received, and the group had wonderful things to say about its author:
“Kristina McMorris visited our book club today. She talked about all the research she does before she writes her books. She was informative, fun and was a great guest. Everyone loved her!” Joan, book club manager
“I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sold on a Monday. (Kristina), your joining us was a wonderful addition to our discussion. I look forward to our next book club and again hearing your input. Thank you for joining us.” Joyce , book club member
“I want to thank you for attending our discussion today on Sold on Monday. I loved the book and listening to your discussion of the work that went into writing this book made the reading that much more enjoyable. The characters really come alive once you hear their ‘mother’ talk about the process of creating them. I also wanted to say that I loved the quotes you chose to introduce each part of the book. Their meaning was spot on for what was to come and very thought provoking as well. Looking forward to reading Bridge of Scarlet Leaves, as well as seeing you again and hearing about this book as well. All the best.” Myra, book club member
“Was a nice discussion today and Kristina has a lively, upbeat, bubbly personality. Thanks for all you do to coordinate this for us. ” Lori, book club member
“I enjoyed listening on how you get information to write a book. Also how you out a novel together in layers. “Sold on Monday” is sad because of how desperate poor mothers were back in those days. My cousin who is 90 now was put in an orphanage with his two siblings – in the late 1930’s – early 40’s. His mom just couldn’t afford to take care of them . In today’s world there are many places that help plus welfare. By the way, you mentioned you have children in college – you look like a college student yourself. Thank you for being at our bookclub and looking forward to your next visit.” Miriam, book club member
If your book club is still weighing in on whether or not to invite an author to join your discussion, this post should tip the scales!
