About the Virtual Adventure

Introducing our New ABTB Book Club Series!

Adventures by the Book is delighted to welcome 7 new ABTB Ambassadors, who are helping us launch our new ABTB Book Club Series. The monthly series will alternate between virtual Zoom events, in person San Diego, California events, and hybrid in person/virtual Harrison, New York, events. Each month, our Ambassadors will select a new NovelNetwork author and book to discuss, and we will send out invites for you to join us as you are able, whether in person or virtually.

We invite you to join us at our next virtual event, featuring New York Times bestselling author Janet Skeslien Charles and Sunday Times bestselling author Kate Thompson, in a moderated book club discussion with 3 of our esteemed Ambassadors, Simon Chibuk (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), Jennifer Erickson (Chicago, Illinois), Dorothy Minor (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma), and YOU!

Whether you are already part of an existing book club, or have been wanting to join one, our ABTB Book Club is open to all. Read the book, which we encourage, or not, if you don’t have time, but come join us anyway and be part of the shared reading experience.

*Pre-order your copies of Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade and The Wartime Book Club (below) and we will ship it to you, so that you can read them prior to the event.

About the Authors and Books

Janet Skeslien Charles is the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of The Paris Library. Her work has been translated into thirty-seven languages. She has spent a decade researching Jessie Carson (Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade) at The Morgan Library, the NYPL, and archives across France. Her shorter work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Sydney Morning Herald, LitHub, and the anthology Montana Noir.

Her new novel, Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade, is a dual timeline novel about Jessie Carson, the American librarian who changed the literary landscape of France. Based on the extraordinary little-known history of the women who received the Croix de Guerre medal for courage under fire, this novel is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, the power of literature, and ultimately the courage it takes to make a change.

Kate Thompson is an award-winning journalist, ghostwriter and novelist who has spent the past two decades in the UK mass market and book publishing industry. Over the past ten years, she has concentrated on publishing, writing twelve fiction and non-fiction titles. Her debut novel, Secrets of the Singer Girls, became a Sunday Times bestseller when it launched in 2015, with first week sales of over 10,000.

Her latest novel, The Wartime Book Club, is based on the remarkable true story of Bethnal Green Underground’s shelter library in WW2. This novel is an unforgettable story of everyday bravery and resistance, full of romance, drama, and camaraderie and a tribute to the joy of reading and the power of books in our darkest hour.
