“If you don’t understand the wave, you can’t respect it. And if you don’t have respect, it’s only a matter of time before the ocean teaches you to get some..” – Laird Hamilton
…and if it’s all about respect, you will appreciate this dinner Adventure with one of the most well-respected and successful contemporary mystery writers around, T. Jefferson Parker. Enjoy a delicious pizza dinner while Jeff discusses Desperation Reef, his new high-stakes thriller about a big wave surfer and her sons who compete in the same contest that killed her husband many years before.
Your Adventure includes pizza, salad, soft beverage, tax, gratuity, and an opportunity to meet Jeff up close and personal in an intimate setting.
T. Jefferson Parker is the New York Times bestselling author of 23 crime novels, including Edgar Award-winners Silent Joe and California Girl. Jeff was born in L.A. and grew up in Southern California. He studied English at UC Irvine and worked as a newspaper reporter for five years while writing his first book, Laguna Heat, on evenings and weekends. HBO made Laguna Heat into one of its first original television movies in 1987.
Although the “T” is part of his legal name it does not stand for a name. It is a decorative initial put there by his parents, who once told him they thought T. Jefferson Parker would look good on the White House door. Parker lives in north San Diego County, and enjoys fishing, hiking, and just about anything outdoors.
Desperation Reef tells the story of Jen Stonebreaker is a big wave surfer gearing up to compete in the Monsters of the Mavericks competition—the very same competition that tragically killed her husband 25 years before. Jen spends her days running a successful restaurant by the sea, but she still battles with her own grief and demons, and the upcoming competition feels like a long-awaited reckoning.
She’s training with her two sons, Casey and Brock, who plan to compete with her while struggling against demons and enemies of their own. As the big-wave contest draws closer, a huge, late fall swell is headed toward the Pacific coastline. Jen’s fears gnaw at her—fear for herself, for her sons, for what this competition will mean for the rest of her life.
