We have some pretty fabulous book clubs who take their reading experience to the next level, and visit regularly with NovelNetwork authors. Case in point:
The UTF Book Club is comprised of a group of dedicated retired teachers who love to read, especially historical fiction. The group’s book club manager, Joan, regularly plans author studies, featuring three books by the same author, for discussion over a period of three months. They thoroughly enjoyed their latest author study with New York Times bestselling author Kristina McMorris, and as a bonus, for their third book, they selected WHEN WE HAD WINGS, co-authored by Kristina McMorris and Susan Meissner.
It gets better, they then invited both authors to join their book discussion (yes, that’s possible through NovelNetwork)!
Needless to say, the book club was wowed, as evidenced by the thoughtful notes written by some of their members. Take a peek:
Dear Kristina and Susan.
Thanks so much for the background you provided about your book When We Had Wings. I enjoyed hearing about your collaboration and the research process. As usual with both of your books, I learned many new things never taught in school. My mom was a member of the WW 2 generation and I probably should have listened more avidly to her stories. She was a singer who sang at USO events during the war.
Looking forward to your next individual books and any additional collaborations.
Best wishes,
Lori G
Dear Kristina and Susan,
Wow!! It was great to have you both participate in our Book Club of When We Had Wings. Your writing, insight, research and enthusiasm were all so worthwhile and eye opening.
Thank you for being an integral part of our discussion and I look forward to reading more of your books.

Dear Kristina and Susan,
Thank you for participating in today’s discussion about When We Had Wings. Not only was the book a great read, but listening to you discuss creating the characters and your process for writing the book was just as enjoyable. I thank you both for opening my eyes to a different history of World War II. You’ve certainly piqued my interest in learning and reading more about the war in the Pacific theatre. I’m looking forward to continuing to read your books and have lots to read over the summer by both of you, hardcover and on my Kindle as well. I’ve already told so many friends about the books and they’re looking forward to reading them as well.
All the best,
Myra
Kristina and Susan,
It was wonderful to talk to you again during our book club. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It introduced me to a event that I was not aware of. The book and time was fascinating to me. I thank you for writing about this time. I look forward to reading more of your books.

Susan & Kristina,
It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with you both on the book club zoom. People often say that this or that is a blessing, so here I go… reading in general, your books especially and talking to both of you was a blessing. Thank you for your gift of writing, story telling and time!
Warm regards,
Midge
Dear Susan and Kristina,
Thank you so much for joining us again. Your historical fiction books are written so beautifully. I have learned so much. I never knew about the Japanese invasion of Manila. The nurses were really angels! You are both so gracious and informative and sweet. My group loves you both; so that means you have to visit us again.
Hopefully, we can stay in touch. If you send me links of your books, I will share them with my group. Stay happy, healthy and safe! Continue to write more books, please! Thanks again!
Joan
Thank you for attending our bookclub. I admire both of you for all the research you do in writing a novel. And it’s nice that you’re all friends and together put out this story based on events that happened during WW2. I didn’t know about Manilla at all and that it was invaded by the Japanese. “When we had Wings” was a perfect title – the nurses were amazing angels. What they suffered was unbelievable – it was heartbreaking that the Japanese made them feel worthless but in the hospital they felt human and they mattered.
By the way, Susan, I just saw that you recommended the book “That Summer in Berlin” by Lecia Cornwall.
Thank you. Miriam
If your book club is still weighing in on whether or not to invite an author to join your discussion, this post should tip the scales! In fact, why not invite two!!!
